Stormy Weather
I was driving my vehicle through pouring rain recently. It was raining so hard I had to slow down to see where I was going! Ironically, within two minutes I had driven completely out of the rain and the sun was shining. The clouds in my rearview mirror were very dark. The clouds ahead of me were pristine, puffy white clouds and the sky was a beautiful shade of blue!
Just like that. The storm was behind me. I didn't pull over. I didn't take a detour. I just kept going. Yes, it got dark and I admit I was gripping the steering wheel pretty tightly. When I got home, my husband, Ken, said, "well, I guess we're not getting any rain today". I responded quickly with "oh it stormed today! It just didn't come this way." Not even ten minutes from our home the rain came down like a fire hydrant!
Storms of life happen a lot like that. We may feel the pelting rains of financial hardship or broken relationships that show no sign of healing. There may be situation after situation that pummel us and leave us weary. Then suddenly, the sun begins to shine! We receive an unexpected financial blessing that helps us breathe easier. We see glimmers of hope in our connection with those we love and while we begin to believe that the sun will finally shine again...others are still trying to shelter from their ravaging storm.
Today you may be soaking up the beautiful sunshine of a happy day. You may be seeing storm clouds on the horizon or enduring a full-out nor'easter in your life! Take heart in this promise from God in Isaiah 25:4 (ESV). "For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat." No matter the weather in your life right now find your shelter in Jesus... Protector, Provider, Redeemer and Friend.
