Rise Against Hunger Feeding the 5000 Multiplied

In Luke’s Gospel in the Feeding of the 5,000, Jesus’ disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” We, like Jesus, need not adopt a defeatist attitude before a crowd of people who needs to be fed. Nothing has changed, except the Lord’s expectation is being spoken to us- that’s you and that’s me: “You give them something to eat” and He knows that we have the wherewithal to do so! Now just as then, we can take our little and commit it to Jesus, allowing Him to bless our little, and we too can feed thousands. He says to us, you who are my disciples, do not abandon them to their fate. We have and can continue to actively have a hand in feeding those in need!!

In collaboration with Rise Against Hunger (a 501 © 3 nonprofit) a Community Wide Food Packing Event has been set for Saturday, March, 4, 2023 in the Sussex Central High School Cafeteria. Hundreds have already signed up to pack at least 100,000 meals which have already been sponsored. The goal is to pack up to 150,000 meals on that one day. Financial support for the food and shipping costs to get these meals to needy children has been provided by Grace United Methodist Church Millsboro, Mountaire, Community Bank Delaware, Long Neck Sunrise Rotary, Lewes Rehoboth Beach Rotary, Georgetown Millsboro Rotary, and Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Clubs as well as numerous individual community contributors.

Set up for this event will begin at 5:30 pm on Friday, March 3, 2023 and the packing event will have two three hour packing sessions on Saturday, March 4 from 9:00 am to 12:00 Noon and 12:30-3:30 pm. This is a hands on food packing of soy, rice, dehydrated vegetables and vitamins where individuals, young and old alike and families with children can participate in this fun, music, work filled event.
