Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1) ESV.
Parents, we are role models to our children. We are the authority figures. We are the ones that our children watch. They look at how we handle situations. We cannot say one thing and do another in front of our family. Our children will notice, and they will call us out on it.
Parents, we cannot expect our children to behave one way if we behave another. I know that I am a rotten sinner inside. I know there is nothing good in me. However, I know that the One I am following and imitating is perfect.
It might seem outrageous of Paul, who after all was only a man like you and me, to say, “Imitate me.” In other words, do exactly what I do. He said,” Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” He could say this because he could also say, ‘I am doing what God does.’ As Christians, we should all be able to say, “Imitate me, just I also imitate Christ.”
Although I am a retired Youth Pastor, I still have a heart for young people. Young people are the future of this world. So many times, they are disappointed by the way adults behave. If you are a young person, don’t follow people; follow God.
Parents, our sons, and daughters will not do what we tell them to do; they will do what we do. May I pose this question to you and me, “What kind of an example are we to are children and those around us? Are we the kind of example that can say, “imitate me, just as I imitate Christ?” Would you join me in Praying?
Dear Heavenly Father, I realize that I am the book that my children and people read every day of their lives. Please help me to live in such a way that I can say to them, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
