We Can Get Used To That

The home that I grew up in was directly under the landing path of a military airbase. Any time of the day or night enormously large aircraft would fly over our house as they were preparing to land. Honestly, growing up with that sound we got so used to it, we didn't notice most of the time. When we DID notice it was when we had company. The sound would get louder and louder and our guests eyes would get bigger as they would ask, "what is THAT?!!"

It's interesting what we can get used to in our day. Until someone else notices and reminds us that it's unusual. We may think we are paying attention at home and in our workplace, but perhaps our habits and behavior may get a bit careless. Maybe we aren't as respectful to one another as we should be. We might neglect the standard for our job and begin to take shortcuts.

A good way to check ourselves is to notice how we talk to each other when someone comes to visit. Do we step up our conversation, or change our tone, to make a good impression? What about how we work at our place of employment? When the boss comes around or our supervisor drops by do we change the way we do things?

Here's what God wants us to pay attention to in our relationships at home, at our workplace & in life. Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV), "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

Remembering that God is with us always isn't just for when we need help out of a jam! It can also help us pay attention to how we treat each other and help us to do the right thing. After all, we are serving the King!
