The Flaw

When we were about to have our kitchen floor re-finished I picked out this beautiful pattern and I couldn't wait to see it installed. It turned out beautifully...except for one small section...where the pattern just did not match. It went in the opposite direction. No one else seemed to notice...but it drove me crazy!

Every time we received compliments on the flooring I found myself pointing out the spot that bugged the daylights out of me. Friends would always say...'oh I didn't notice that at all'. And finally I came to the decision that instead of focusing on the flaw I should just enjoy the floor.

How often have I missed the beauty because all I could see was the one thing that seemed like a flaw to me? It seems like we do that often, don't we?! We are surrounded by the good...but instead of enjoying it ...we spend our time focused on the flaw. It might be in our power to fix...or it might not. It might not even be a flaw but it just seems off to us. It's a distraction from what we really should be thinking about...and isn't that what the enemy does?! He distracts us from what we really should be focusing on.

The Apostle Paul told us in Philippians 4:8 (MSG) exactly how to give up that terrible habit of being distracted. "Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse."

Think on these things.
