Lingering Longer

When I first began investigating the art of Bible Journaling I invited some of my friends to come with me on the journey and learn together. We each bought Bibles with very wide margins for drawing and creating and making notes of what particular passages of scripture meant to us. While I am not much of an artist I DO love to create. Colors and cloths. Paints and pencils. So many ways to tell the story of my thoughts and emotions of how the Bible is impacting and leaving a mark on my life.

What I realized quickly was that there was an art that I could definitely aspire to….the art of lingering longer in the Word of God. As I sat with my Bible open thinking about how I would respond to His Word on the page I realized the value of lingering over – meditating – on His Words to me.

God tells us the benefits of lingering there in Joshua 1:8 (NIV). “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful” and Psalm 1:2-3, “but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.”

Whether we draw or make notes in our Bible isn’t the point. If we really want to know God’s heart for us and how we should live our lives – it all begins with this…linger longer in God’s Word.
