Now Playing Honestly, We Just Need Jesus Terrian

September 28, 2022

Then the LORD said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. (Exodus 3:7-8) ESV

Moses was a man with a destiny. His being alive after his burning bush experience with the God of all Creation was a miracle of God’s Grace and protection. Moses was an introvert – he did not like the limelight. He had a speech impediment and was used to working behind the scenes in the desert, looking after his father-in-law’s sheep.

One day God interrupted his comfortable life and appeared to him in a burning bush… God called to him from the midst of the burning bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And Moses answered, “Here I am” (v. 4). God gave Moses a massive assignment. “Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharoah that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt” (v. 10).

Moses didn’t want to do it. “But Moses said to God (v. 11), “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” God promised Moses and said, “But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain” (v. 12). Then Moses said to God (v. 13), “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” We see the encounter with God, the call of God, and the response to God. Have you ever had an encounter with God; has He ever told you to do something; and if so, what has your reaction been? Moses was reluctant, but once he accepted God’s calling, he obeyed God. Moses stepped out in faith and did as God had commanded him.

Moses lived a remarkable life of faith. It required a massive step of faith to believe that God could free the children of Israel from slavery. They had been in captivity for hundreds and hundreds of years. The Lord used a man who was willing to believe Him.

Friends, God hasn’t changed – He is the same miracle-working God that called Abraham, Noah, Moses, and many others in the Bible. Is God calling you to take a step-in faith? Would you pray with me?

Dear Heavenly Father, I am filled with awe and wonder as I read the stories of many great men and women of faith. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. You have not changed. Please help me to be obedient to Your calling upon my life and to develop a patient faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
