Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

So Abram went, as the LORD had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. (Genesis 12: 1-4) ESV

Stop for a moment and think what it must have been like for Abraham. Imagine being told to pack up and leave the comfort zone of your home; this home and area had been where you grew up. God’s command to Abraham was just that. However, God’s command to Abraham came with a promise though. God said to Abraham that if he obeyed Him, He would bless him. Obedience had to go first, then the blessing followed.

Likewise, God wants to bless us, but we must be prepared to trust and obey Him first. We cannot have blessings without faith and obedience. I heard it once said that “Faith and obedience work together just as unbelief and disobedience work together.”

I remember being told before my family and I moved from Michigan that the second most traumatic thing you can experience is moving from home.  Each time my family and I moved, we knew where we were going. When Abraham and his family moved, they didn’t know where they were going. Abraham was not called a friend of God because he was a good man; he was an obedient man of great faith. The Bible tells us in (Romans 10:17) ESV, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” We know this. This is part of our problem; we have become comfortable and, in our comfort, complacent. James 1:22 (ESV) says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” This is a critical warning for us all.

Friends, the Word of God is Jesus in print. That said, the more we get to know Jesus, the more faith we will have when the Lord calls us out of our comfort zones. The root of faith is in the knowledge of a Person – Jesus Christ. Would you pray with me?

Dear Heavenly Father, I know You are not interested in my lip service. I want to obey You and trust You. I realize, though, that I will not be able to do this unless I know You. Lord, help me remove my Unbelief and Disobedience and replace it with Faith and Obedience. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Encouraging Words from Romans 15:13 (ESV): May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope <><

God Bless you and have a Blessed Day, Friends <><
