So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) ESV
This month’s Devotional Thoughts will concentrate on the attributes of living a faith-filled life. Todays’ attribute is abiding by God’s Word.
Jesus Christ has overcome the devil, and He is seated in Heaven and is seated at the Right Hand of the Father. Jesus died on Calvarys’ Cross, rose again, and ascended into Heaven so that we can have faith in God. Amen. He says to us, “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38) ESV.
To believe, we need to have God’s Word inside our hearts. Jesus further promises us in (Mark 11:22-24) ESV, “And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Moreover, our freedom comes from abiding by God’s Word. The more we abide in the Word of God, the more faith we will have. The more faith we have, the more freedom we will enjoy. Jesus stated it this way to the Jews who believed in Him, “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32) ESV. When the religious leaders of Jesus’ day heard Him talking about freedom in John 8, they didn’t understand what He was saying. Their reaction was that they didn’t need anything. They were arrogant and proud, caught up in their sin.
There are still many people today who are just like these religious leaders of Jesus’ days. They don’t realize their need or their sin. “Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:34-36) ESV.
Friends, don’t hesitate. Come to Jesus today, believe in Him, abide in His Word, and He will set you free. Would you Pray with me?
Father in Heaven, I bow before You. I acknowledge my need for You. Forgive me, Lord, for the sins that I have committed. I thank You that I walk in the freedom of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Thank You that I abide in Your Word, daily growing in my faith. Thank You for Your Word. Amen
