Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. (James 4:10) ESV.

Humility, God loves humility! God cannot use someone that is filled with pride! He will not share His Glory with anyone. Satan learned this as he was cast (or thrown) out of heaven for thinking he was equal to God. In (Proverbs 16:18) tells us, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” How many people do we know who started with great enthusiasm only to crash and burn along the way?

Almost always, this is due to pride. We can be sure that if we entertain pride in our hearts, the devil will use it to gain a foothold in our lives; that’s a guarantee! From there, it will be just a short journey for him to find a way to trip us up. Proverbs has a lot to say about pride; listen to the advice of (Proverbs 11:2) which tells us, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.”

Moreover, humility and wisdom go together, as (James 3:13) tells us, “Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.” Our purpose is to glorify God through our lives. That said, any ministry or any prominence we may have is not for our benefit but for the use of the Gospel. In my Devotional Thought the other day, I mentioned that one of our purposes is to fulfill the Great Commission; may I also add that we can only be the witnesses we need to be if we walk in humility! As His children, this is what the Lord expects from us, “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8) tells us.

Friends, my final word on humility for today’s Devotional Thought is found in (Proverbs 29:23), which says, “One's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.” Would you join me in praying today?

Dear Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times that I allowed pride to surface in my heart. I realize that You have called me to walk in humility. I want to glorify You and live as Your child, fulfilling Your purposes for my life. Father, I submit to You in all things. For it is in Your Precious Name, I pray, Amen.

## Encouraging Words from Charles Spurgeon: While others are congratulating themselves, I have to sit at the foot of the cross and marvel that I am saved at all.

God Bless you, Friends, and have a Blessed Day <><
