One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much (Luke 16:10) ESV.

The Israelites had been waiting for forty years to enter the promised land. When the time came, their strength deserted them, and they were overcome with fear and doubt.

Caleb had a different spirit; he trusted God and knew that his God would supply everything they needed to take down the giants. As I mentioned in the other days’ Devotional Thought, we need the inner strength to deal with outward blessings. For instance, maybe your dream is to own a farm one day. If you haven’t been to Agricultural College or a Trade school to learn about farming, you will be in trouble. You need to know the theory of agriculture and the practical aspects of being a successful farmer; in other words, you will not last a season when God gives you the farm.

That said, whatever our dreams are, whatever we have asked God for, we need to prepare ourselves to cope with the blessing once God gives it — spending the time while we are waiting to prepare our inner man. We must ensure that we are growing stronger in the Lord to prepare for the extensive tests when they come. We prepare for the big tests by passing the smaller ones. Making the most of each day so that we are ready for the big day.

Our Scripture passage today from Luke chapter sixteen tells another story about passing the test in the smaller things in order to cope with the big things. It is the story of the unrighteous steward. This man did not have inner strength; because along with inner strength comes the strength of character. There is nothing like trials, tribulations, and suffering to build the strength of character. This steward did not have the strength of character, and with that, Jesus replied, “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much” (v. 10).

Friends, would you join me today in this Prayer?

Dear Heavenly Father, I want to be faithful in the little things so that You can trust me with the big things. I realize that this takes strength of character, which comes from persevering and enduring. I love You, Lord, and ask You to please help me to be faithful to You in all things, big and small. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
